The figure on the left is clearly identifiable as Daikokuten, the Japanese deity of wealth, agriculture, and household fortune. He stands atop bales of rice, holding his iconic attributes: a mallet (called uchide no kozuchi, the magic money hammer) in his right hand, and a sack slung over his shoulder in his left hand. Daikokuten is widely worshipped as one of the Seven Lucky Gods and is associated with prosperity and abundance, particularly for households and merchants. The figure on the right is also holding a mallet in the left hand and appears to carry a sack in the right hand, suggesting it may represent another depiction of Daikokuten, though this is not entirely certain. The sculpture on the left bears a signature on the back of the legs. Both pieces are carved in a faceted, stylised manner typical of folk or devotional craft traditions of the period. The set show natural patina and signs of age, including some blemishes and surface dust. Please refer to the photos for condition. Dimensions of Sculptures: approx.
