Starożytny Egipt, późny okres Fajans Amulet Wedjat (Bez ceny minimalnej )
An Ancient Egyptian cream faience amulet depicting the wedjat eye, or Eye of Horus. The amulet features the typical silhouette, combining human and falcon ocular imagery. Hatched diagonal incisions upon the top ridge portray the brow, beneath which the almond-shaped eye, extended cosmetic line, and a pupil are carefully carved. The rectangular protrusion beneath the eye, adorned with vertical incisions, represents the cheek marking, from which the amulet curves to the back in a spiral. The reverse is flat and unadorned. The amulet features a ribbed loop at the top for suspension. Minor earthy encrustations and chips to the glaze.
The wedjat, as the Eye of Horus, is one of the most popular amulets of ancient Egypt. The amulet combines elements of both human and falcon ocular imagery, as Horus was often depicted as a falcon. Its name comes from the ancient Egyptian ‘wḏꜣt’, meaning “the one that is complete”. The wedjat was highly apotropaic and associated with a number of Egyptian myths. The eye depicted could be either left or right, representing different solar and lunar imagery. Wedjat eye amulets were commonly placed within mummy wrappings to help the dead to help them pass safely into the afterlife.
