A lovely lacquered jikirô 食籠 (ceremonial food container) with a dined fitted lid and raised on a pedestal foot. On top a very rare gold lacquered crest 紋 (mon) showcasing two long stalks encased by a stacked diamond shape in a circle. Set on a black lacquere ground. The interior finished with vibrant vermillion lacquer. Lacquer food containers like this one were presented by wealthy families at weddings or other important occasions. They would have contained delicacies appropriate to the season. Dimensions: Height 24 cm, Diameter 30.5 cm Period: Japan – Edo period (1615-1868) IT is in a good original condition with some traces of wear conform age. Cover with small shrinkage crack at a side, and underside with shrinkage crack. Please look at the photos for a condition reference. Complete with wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box) with inscribed label: “Edo period - antique food container” 江戸期 時代食籠. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
